VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Help is urgently needed at the main foster home in Fenton on Saturdays between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. ANY help is needed. Children 10 and over can help if a parent is with them.  Feed, clean, groom or help socialize the bunnies.  Laundry, dishes, sweeping, taking out trash, organizing the Bunny Store items. Unpacking supplies. Giving a lonely rabbit a treat, giving a tired volunteer a hug and a smile!

-  Bunnies need to be adopted into permanent, loving homes.

-  Foster homes are needed for homeless bunnies.

-  Sponsors are needed for foster rabbits.

-   Fundraising  ideas and efforts are always needed.  The medical, feed and supply expenses never stop.

-  Items collections, see the "Donate - how you can help" page for ideas of what is needed. Take items to the main foster home in Fenton.

-  Come to monthly meetings with ideas of how to help and share those ideas.  Bring a friend and get them involved.

-  Help at events like the Bunny Expo (usually in June) and the Holiday Bunny Boutique (usually in Nov./Dec.)

-  Donate items to be raffled or sold at Bunny Expo and Holiday Bunny Boutique.

-  Help with the PetsMart Adoption Program. ILLINOIS HELPERS NEEDED, TOO. Missouri House Rabbit Society has teamed with PetSmart to provide information and adoption applications to those wishing to adopt a companion pet rabbit. We are also searching for volunteers who would be willing to help at a PetsMart location in Illinois (possibly O'Fallon).  Contact Marjorie at mmanahan@charter.net

-  Educate everyone you know about the overpopulation of rabbits.  Giving real, living "Easter Bunnies" is
NOT a good idea!  Easter bunnies should be chocolate only!  People who truly want a rabbit as a permanent family member should remember: "Don't shop - Adopt!"

-  Educate everyone you know to be aware of the widespread use of rabbit fur in pet toys, trim on clothes etc. and to pay attention in Hobby stores, talk to managers, contact main offices etc.  If you see something wrong, speak up!

-  Learn as much as you can about rabbits and their care.  Rabbits are very different in how they respond to medications and procedures.  Learn what questions to ask a vet BEFORE you take your rabbit there. Share the information you learn.  The National House Rabbit Society site is a great place to start. http://rabbit.org/

- Check our page "Veterinarians" to find a list of local vets that have medical experience in treating rabbits.

-  Educate!   As long as people think of animals as "things" to be used, instead of "beings" to care for, they will continue to throw them away.

-  Want to meet the rabbits?  Want to see about adopting and/or fostering?  We encourage visits to our main foster home weeknights and weekends. Please call:  314-995-1457 or e-mail us at mo_hrs@hotmail.com to schedule an appointment.

-  Don't be shy...the rabbits need you!

Donations can be sent to HRS of Missouri, P.O. Box 6362, Chesterfield, MO 63006.
We are a 501(c)3 charity, so donations are deductible!

You can also donate easily through our Paypal button below.
Either way your donation gives abandoned bunnies a second chance at love.

Please call:  314-995-1457 or e-mail   mo_hrs@hotmail.com   with questions or to volunteer.

There are many opportunities to volunteer with HRS.  Some involve direct contact with rabbits, others do not.  ANY effort is helping the rabbits, so please look at the ideas on this page and see what you can do.  See what ideas you can come up with and share them. We all have something to give, so see where YOU fit in and join us!

We need people to temporarily house rescues: for two-week periods between March 3 and March 23 so our foster home can accept spring-break boarders.  E-mail wdaly@sbcglobal.net if you can accept a temporary foster.  Type “Temporary Foster” in the subject line.

Adoption Days at PetSmart: Can you help us staff our adoption booths at PetSmart stores in Bridgeton, Manchester and Sunset Hills?  You don’t have to be a bunny expert; just tell people how much you enjoy your bunny.  You will be helping rescued bunnies move from our foster home into "forever homes".  We don’t have enough people to cover all the time slots so please contact Marjorie Manahan at mkmanahan@gmail.com or call her: 636-734-3964.

You don’t need to join a gym to get in shape: Tone body and soul with a Saturday workout at the foster home.  All the bunnies get their cages cleaned, fresh bedding, clean bowls and new toys.  Plan to bend and stretch!  You can arrive as early as 9am and stay as long as you want.  The work usually ends mid-afternoon.  For a less strenuous workout, you can wash bunny bowls or do bunny laundry.  Contact  wdaly@sbcglobal.net if you need directions to the foster home.
Volunteers start at 9am every Saturday at the foster home and are generally done by 3-4 pm.  It really helps to have enough workers so that everyone only needs to stay a short while.   Email wdaly@sbcglobal.net and tell us what Saturday you can help and what time you will arrive.  If Saturdays aren’t possible, your help is needed on Wednesday evenings to change litter boxes.  Thanks!

Congrats to our Task Force!  Can you help?
"Rush", a handsome, young New Zealand White bunny in our foster home, went to a “forever” home in Indiana last weekend. This happy event was the result of our task force members calling rabbit rescue groups, asking if they can take the big, white bunnies we rescued from the Stone County breeder who abandoned them last spring.
Can you help by making a few phone calls? Email Elaine demoser9603@sbcglobal.net
State the subject as “Task Force.”

                                  ~~~~~~The Magnificent Seven ~~~~~~~
Seven small bunnies need adopters or foster homes because their foster mom can no longer keep them.  There are two single girls, a bonded pair of lionheads and a trio of lionheads.  They are all terribly cute.  Please email Missouri House Rabbit Society at wdaly@sbcglobal.net if you can share your home with any of these little charmers.
Adoption Helpers Needed!
  There is nothing more joyful than placing a bunny in a loving home and you can make that happen!
Spend 3 hours one day a month or every other month at a PetSmart store talking to people about pet bunnies.  You don't have to be an expert.  Just tell people how much you enjoy your bunny.   Marjorie schedules volunteers at the PetSmart stores in Manchester, Bridgeton, Brentwood and Sunset Hills.  You can choose a Saturday or a Sunday and the 11am-2pm shift or the 2-5pm shift.
Contact Marjorie at: mkmanahan@gmail.com
Sanctuary Homes Needed
We need permanent homes for a few sanctuary bunnies. Placing our sanctuaries will give us room for more rescues.There is nothing wrong with most of these bunnies.  Most are simply shy and they’ve been passed over for so long that they aren’t babies any longer and that hurts their chances for adoption. Many just need extra attention to bring them out of their shells.  MO HRS covers medical costs for sanctuary and foster bunnies. Their caretakers get our best discount on hay and supplies.  If you can help, call HRS at 314-995-1457 or email mo_hrs@hotmail.com
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ON MONDAYS AT MAIN FOSTER HOME:
For several years, we have had consistent help at the main foster home on Monday evenings, but with some of our volunteers off to college, we now need additional volunteers on this night.  Food, water, andhay is what we do on Monday nights so it only takes a couple of hours or less. Do you have Monday evenings available?
Please contact Joy at:
Can you donate any items on this list for our Silent Auction on Trivia Night?
If so, please contact either Marjorie at mkmanahan@gmail.com or Thelma at thelma.miller.ctr@disa.mil
